Our History

Dance Fredericton Danse Inc. is a not for profit school in the heart of beautiful downtown Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was established in 1992 and celebrates it's 25th year in 2017.  Originally, Dance Fredericton's main objective was to provide a high quality, recreational ballet program to interested dancers. It has since developed into a highly respected dance school with both a recreational and intensive stream in the genres of ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

The recreational programs offer weekly classes for ages 3 through Adult in ballet, Jazz and contemporary with an in-house parents day at Christmas and an annual year-end recital at The Fredericton Playhouse. The Intensive stream provides a strong foundation for future professional dance training. It consists of multiple classes per week in ballet, Jazz and contemporary, along with Royal Academy of Dancing examinations, conditioning and choreography classes. The students in our Intensive stream also have the opportunity to compete in local dance competitions as well as many additional performance opportunities.

In December 2007 Dance Fredericton Danse Inc. initiated the ballet project Nutcracker Suite and Friends.  The performance included three original pieces choreographed by Johanne Gingras, of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, based on Act II of the Nutcracker Ballet, as well as several festive selections and performances by guest soloists from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. The following year, three additional dances were choreographed by Ms Gingras and added to the repertoire. The Nutcracker project continued to be expanded yearly with the addition of original dances for the party scene Act One, choreographed by Sylvia Logan, Artistic Director of Rothesay Ballet School and Leslee Dell, Artistic Director of Dance Fredericton. Dance Fredericton was pleased to present the first full length Nutcracker Ballet in 2012. This year we are pleased to be celebrating our 10th anniversary of Nutcracker. The cast includes students from Dance Fredericton’s Performance Group and guests from the community, as well as guest artists from professional ballet companies.
